Compression Line
2016
Compression Line is a monumental earthwork consisting of a long, linear steel-lined trench carved into the landscape, creating a stark geometric intervention against the natural terrain. The compressed steel channel runs horizontally across reddish earth, dividing the cultivated forest ground and drawing the viewer's eye toward the distant tree line. This work exemplifies Land Art's engagement with scale, materiality, and the transformation of natural space through minimal, precise geometric forms. The piece demonstrates Heizer's career-long exploration of the relationship between human intervention and the natural environment, using industrial materials to create subtle yet commanding marks upon the earth.
