Substrat 3I
Substrat 3I is a mesmerizing digital work by German photographer and conceptual artist Thomas Ruff, in which he manipulates and layers imagery sourced from Japanese manga and anime to create abstract, painterly compositions that blur the boundaries between photography and digital art. The work dissolves its source material into cascading floods of color and fragmented forms, evoking both the aesthetic language of Abstract Expressionism and the pixelated nature of digital imagery. This example, numbered 2/3 and presented as a flush-mount, reflects Ruff's ongoing exploration of how images are constructed, mediated, and transformed in the digital age.
