VB48.008.DR, Palazzo Ducale, Genoa
A large-scale chromogenic print by Vanessa Beecroft capturing one of her signature live performances, in which rows of nearly nude women stand in rigid, statuesque formations within the opulent, historic halls of the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa. The stark contrast between the vulnerability of the female figures and the grandeur of the Renaissance architecture creates a tension between the classical and the contemporary. Flush-mounted to emphasize its pristine, immersive quality, the work explores themes of uniformity, identity, and the objectification of the female body.
