Sarah Lucas — Wichser Schicksal (Wanker Destiny)
Sarah Lucas

Wichser Schicksal (Wanker Destiny)

A crudely modelled fibreglass phallus rotates mechanically on a mirrored plinth, its motorised movement transforming an act of bawdy provocation into something almost ceremonial. Lucas brings her characteristic working-class wit and unflinching engagement with sexuality and mortality to bear on the absurdity of masculine desire, rendering it both ridiculous and strangely forlorn. The use of reflective surfaces multiplies and fragments the object, implicating the viewer while reinforcing the work's dark, tragicomic meditation on fate and the body.

Medium
painted fibreglass, aluminium, wood, mirrored glass, motor, control unit, cables
