Transsibirische Bahn (Transsiberian Rail)
A small tin container bearing Beuys' characteristic blend of material simplicity and mythological weight, this work transforms an everyday industrial object into a meditation on journey, endurance, and transformation. The Transsiberian Railway — one of history's great feats of human will crossing vast, unforgiving wilderness — serves as a conceptual anchor, evoking themes of passage, survival, and the negotiation between civilization and raw nature that pervaded Beuys' broader practice. Signed in pencil and stamped with its edition number on an adhered label, the work exists at the intersection of sculptural object and multiple, carrying the intimacy of the artist's hand within a deliberately democratized format.
