Jean Dubuffet, born in 1901 in Le Havre and died in 1985 in Paris, was a French painter, sculptor, draughtsman, and printmaker, renowned not only for his work but also as the “inventor” of a form of art he named “Art Brut.” In 1942, he decided to devote himself exclusively to painting. His first exhibition, held in 1944 at Galerie Drouin in Paris, provoked passionate reactions. Although his work initially faced strong criticism, it gradually came to be recognized as one of the most significant bodies of work of the twentieth century.
