Black Alice; and A Journal of the Plague Year
Produced through the collaborative practice of Tim Rollins and K.O.S. (Kids of Survival), these two works bring together literary source material and raw, visceral mark-making by layering imagery directly onto the pages of seminal texts. One work employs screenprint to engage with Lewis Carroll's *Through the Looking-Glass*, while the other uses goat's blood as a drawing medium on pages from Daniel Defoe's *A Journal of the Plague Year*, invoking themes of disease, mortality, and survival with haunting immediacy. The use of bodily fluid as pigment in the latter work carries particular resonance, reflecting the South Bronx community's lived experience during the AIDS crisis and their ongoing dialogue with historical and literary narratives of suffering and resilience.
