Letter from a Birmingham City Jail (after Rev. Dr. M.L.K, Jr,)
Created in collaboration between artist Tim Rollins and the youth collective K.O.S. (Kids of Survival), this powerful work layers vibrant acrylic paint over collaged pages from Martin Luther King Jr.'s seminal 1963 "Letter from Birmingham Jail." The visible text beneath the painted surface serves as both foundation and subject, allowing King's urgent words on justice and civil disobedience to physically support and inform the imagery above. The result is a deeply resonant dialogue between historical text and contemporary artistic expression, honoring King's legacy while asserting the voices of marginalized youth.
