Yellowcake (Embassy I,II, III, IV, IV.a, V, VI, VII, VII.a)
Thomas Demand's monumental nine-part photographic work presents meticulously constructed paper and cardboard recreations of spaces connected to the fabricated intelligence scandal surrounding alleged Iraqi uranium procurement in Niger. The large-scale chromogenic prints, mounted behind acrylic glass using the Diasec process, depict eerily vacant bureaucratic interiors — offices, filing rooms, and diplomatic spaces — rendered with Demand's characteristic clinical precision and unsettling absence of human presence. The work interrogates the nature of evidence, political deception, and the role of images in constructing and legitimizing narratives of truth.
