The Sea
2026
A framed diptych rendered entirely in bleached and indigo denim presents a minimalist seascape. The upper two thirds of the composition occupies an empty, pale blue void, while the lower third depicts a horizon line of turbulent waves rendered in dark navy and white thread. The work employs the language of tarot or instructional card imagery, with the title 'THE SEA' printed in stark black lettering at the base. Doyle's characteristic use of denim as sculptural material transforms this quotidian fabric into a vehicle for meditative, emblematic imagery, invoking both the traditions of American folk art and the melancholic register of contemporary abstraction.
