SETHIX QR-GRiDS #14
2022
SETHIX-QR GRID #20 (2021–2022) is part of the 1-of-1 SETHIX QR-GRIDs series. These digital artworks explore encrypted systems, computational mysticism, and metaphysical control through dense, signal-like QR-grid structures. Each piece functions as an abstract interface — simultaneously a sacred diagram, surveillance device, and speculative ritual object. This work belongs to Iain Ball’s broader SETHIX mythos: a contemporary Gnostic system that stages a metaphysical conflict between divine sovereignty and synthetic assimilation. The SETHIX CONTROL SYSTEM — an alien+AI hybrid intelligence — emerges as a force seeking to overwrite organic evolution and subsume human agency within a coded, machinic order. Formally influenced by data structures, QR architecture, and techno-esoteric aesthetics, the series encodes a visual language that is not meant to be read linearly, but absorbed into the collective mind space.

Casey Reas
American · b. 1972
Reas creates generative digital works that fuse computational systems with abstract visual structures, producing dense grid like outputs that evoke both algorithmic order and mystical complexity. His work similarly treats code as a conceptual and aesthetic medium with near ritualistic significance.
Harm van den Dorpel
Dutch · b. 1981
Van den Dorpel produces digital artworks rooted in encrypted visual logic, interface aesthetics, and speculative computational systems that parallel the QR grid structures and metaphysical data imagery in this piece. His practice shares the same tension between legible signal and hidden meaning.
Ryoji Ikeda
Japanese · b. 1966
Ikeda works extensively with raw data visualizations, barcode like grids, and binary visual languages that closely mirror the dense signal structures and computational mysticism present in this work. His art similarly frames data as a sacred and overwhelming metaphysical force.
