SETHIX-QR GRiD #2
2021
SETHIX-QR GRID #2 (2021–2022) is part of the 1-of-1 SETHIX QR-GRIDs series. These digital artworks explore encrypted systems, computational mysticism, and metaphysical control through dense, signal-like QR-grid structures. Each piece functions as an abstract interface — simultaneously a sacred diagram, surveillance device, and speculative ritual object. This work belongs to Iain Ball’s broader SETHIX mythos: a contemporary Gnostic system that stages a metaphysical conflict between divine sovereignty and synthetic assimilation. The SETHIX CONTROL SYSTEM — an alien+AI hybrid intelligence — emerges as a force seeking to overwrite organic evolution and subsume human agency within a coded, machinic order. Formally influenced by data structures, QR architecture, and techno-esoteric aesthetics, the series encodes a visual language that is not meant to be read linearly, but absorbed into the collective mind space.

Casey Reas
American · b. 1972
Reas creates generative digital works that treat computational code as both aesthetic structure and conceptual system, producing dense grid based visual outputs that blur the boundary between machine logic and abstract ritual. His work shares the same interest in signal like patterning and encrypted visual language as SETHIX QR GRiD #2.
Ryoji Ikeda
Japanese · b. 1966
Ikeda obsessively explores raw data, binary sequences, and barcode like visual structures rendered with near sacred precision, treating information density as a form of digital mysticism. This directly mirrors Ball's use of QR grid structures as speculative ritual objects and metaphysical surveillance diagrams.
Harm van den Dorpel
Dutch · b. 1981
Van den Dorpel produces algorithmic and blockchain informed digital artworks that function as abstract interfaces where computational systems carry symbolic and metaphysical weight. His engagement with encrypted digital structures and speculative Gnostic like systems of control closely parallels the conceptual framework of SETHIX QR GRiD #2.
