Observatorio oriente (Eastern Observatory)
2003
Abraham Cruzvillegas's *Observatorio oriente (Eastern Observatory)* reflects the artist's signature practice of *autoconstrucción*, drawing on improvised materials and processes rooted in the vernacular building traditions of his upbringing in Ajusco, Mexico City. The work evokes a sense of makeshift architecture and communal knowledge, positioning observation and orientation as acts shaped by cultural memory and everyday resourcefulness. Through its assembled form, the piece invites viewers to consider how we navigate and interpret our surroundings using the humble, often overlooked tools of lived experience.
