The Money Pit
2013
A kaleidoscopic assemblage of everyday consumer materials and reflective surfaces, Alex Da Corte's *The Money Pit* layers spray paint, sequins, gold foil, and currency alongside plastic leaves and marbleized Plexiglas to create a seductive yet unsettling meditation on value and excess. The work transforms mundane, readily available materials—duct tape, stickers, CDs, rubber ties—into a glittering tableau that blurs the line between trash and treasure. Housed in the artist's own frame, the piece functions as both a critique and celebration of consumer culture, its shimmering surfaces simultaneously attracting and destabilizing the viewer's gaze.
