Pioneered action painting by throwing bottles of paint at canvases and creating 'Cannon Paintings' as a founding Gutai member. His explosive approach to art-making questioned traditional methods and emphasized the creative act itself. His work is collected by the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art.
