Domenico Robusti, known as Domenico Tintoretto, was a Venetian painter born in 1560, the son and pupil of the great Jacopo Tintoretto. He worked extensively in his father's workshop and continued the family's prolific output after Jacopo's death in 1594, becoming a noted portraitist and religious painter in his own right. His portraits in particular were highly regarded by contemporaries, and he received commissions from the Venetian nobility and state throughout his career until his death in 1635.
