Rove and Round — face #23-01
2023
This sculptural work presents a modest laundry bag suspended within a geometric steel frame, its mesh surface printed with abstracted figural forms in muted tones. The dyed mesh bag hangs from a brass bolt at the apex of the turquoise painted steel armature, which rests on wheels, suggesting mobility and impermanence. Leather scraps and thread embellishments accent the composition, creating a tension between functional everyday objects and formal artistic presentation. The work exemplifies contemporary sculptural practice that mines domestic and utilitarian materials for their aesthetic and conceptual potential, engaging with themes of containment, labor, and the overlooked spaces of daily life. Through its modest scale and accessible materials, the piece invites reconsideration of what constitutes artistic subject matter in the twenty first century.
