Emilio Scanavino

Emilio Scanavino (1922, 1986) was an Italian painter associated with the post-war European avant-garde, known for his gestural abstract works that bridged Informalism and a deeply personal visual language rooted in signs and symbolic markings. His canvases often feature recurring motifs such as knots, loops, and labyrinthine forms rendered in a restrained palette, reflecting existential themes of entrapment, continuity, and the human condition. Scanavino is regarded as one of the most significant figures of Italian Informalism, exhibiting internationally and participating in major venues including the Venice Biennale.
