In this series of eight gelatin silver prints, Japanese artist Yasumasa Morimura inserts his own likeness into iconic black-and-white portraits of legendary Western actresses and entertainers, including Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Greta Garbo. Through meticulous photographic manipulation, Morimura replaces the faces of these celebrated figures with his own, creating a provocative dialogue around identity, gender, race, and the constructed nature of celebrity. The works challenge Western ideals of beauty and femininity while interrogating the cultural dominance of Hollywood and the power of iconic imagery.
