Pilgrim Monument
1910
This soaring granite campanile rises 252 feet above High Pole Hill in Provincetown, Massachusetts, a monumental tribute to the Pilgrims' landing. Designed by architect Willard T. Sears and completed in 1910, the tower exemplifies early twentieth century civic commemoration through its bold vertical form and refined Romanesque Revival details. Constructed of locally quarried granite, the structure features a crenellated top and diminishing tiers that emphasize its impressive height against the sky. At its base stands an ornamental stone plinth inscribed with commemorative reliefs, anchoring this architectural landmark within a landscape of autumn foliage. The Pilgrim Monument remains one of Massachusetts' most recognizable public monuments, visible for miles across the Cape Cod peninsula. Wikimedia Commons (CC)
