Satan's Nostrils; and Hangin'-Heavy-Hairy-Horny (Sweat)
Two stuffed animal sculptures by Mike Kelley, *Satan's Nostrils* and *Hangin'-Heavy-Hairy-Horny (Sweat)*, date from 1989 and exemplify the artist's signature use of abject, handmade materials to evoke themes of childhood, repression, and cultural anxiety. Each work is signed, dated, and annotated "AP I/X" in black ink on attached ribbons, designating them as artist's proofs from editions of 40. The works are presented framed, underscoring Kelley's subversive approach to elevating the lowly and discarded into the realm of fine art.
