‘The whole point is that the thing is being absolutely transformed, also that I was somehow removed in this process, all I had to do was develop a support for the catalyst and then it was then out of my hands.’ JACOB KASSAY
A luminous, mirror-like surface defines this work, its electroplated silver deposit fused with acrylic on canvas to create a shifting, reflective plane that responds to its surrounding environment and viewer. Kassay's process-driven approach relinquishes authorial control to chemical transformation, allowing the industrial silvering technique to determine the final appearance of the work. The result is an object that hovers between painting and mirror, presence and absence, simultaneously absorbing and reflecting the world around it.
