one second loop (grand palais) 23
2013
A luminous layered composition, *one second loop (grand palais) 23* sees Dashiell Manley build depth through an accumulation of translucent and opaque materials — gouache, watercolour, and ink applied to canvas and filtered through lighting gels and acrylic sheet. The work's two-part structure, housed in the artist's own frame, suggests a flickering interval of time, evoking the fleeting, atmospheric quality of light passing through the glass and iron vaults of the Grand Palais. Manley transforms humble and industrial materials into something immersive and painterly, collapsing the boundary between image and object.
