Untitled (#15-25)
2025
This large scale canvas presents a densely layered composition of gestural marks, splatters, and translucent washes across a predominantly white ground. Teal and turquoise strokes form geometric rectangular scaffolding that anchors the composition, while coral red, pink, yellow, and black accents create visual tension throughout. The materiality is paramount: paint has been applied, scraped, dripped, and splattered in multiple passes, creating a palimpsestic surface that suggests both spontaneity and deliberate intervention. Morris's practice engages abstraction through an exploratory process that balances control and chance, positioning the work within contemporary gestural abstraction and the legacy of abstract expressionism. The vertical format and all over composition invite sustained looking that moves between figuration and pure mark making.
