America - La France Variations III
1984
A bold abstract composition by Robert Motherwell combining color lithography with collage elements, featuring gestural black brushstrokes, torn paper forms in ochre, blue, and red, and an incorporated label from 'Papeteries Arjomari-Prioux' — a French paper manufacturer whose products Motherwell frequently used. This work exemplifies Motherwell's celebrated synthesis of American Abstract Expressionism with European modernist sensibility. Edition 48 of 70, hand-signed in pencil in the lower right margin. Acquired by the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut in 2001 with funds donated by Homer and Coverly Reese.
