Zainul Abedin, known as Shilpacharya ('Great Teacher of the Arts'), was a pioneering Bangladeshi painter celebrated for his powerful depictions of the Bengal famine of 1943. He co-founded the Institute of Arts and Crafts at the University of Dhaka in 1948 and is widely regarded as the founding father of modern Bangladeshi art. His work bridged social activism and artistic vision, leaving a lasting legacy on the cultural identity of Bangladesh.
