Simon Pietersz. Verelst (1644, 1721) was a Dutch Golden Age painter celebrated for his exquisitely detailed floral still lifes and portraits. Born in The Hague, he moved to London in 1669 where he achieved remarkable fame and patronage among the English aristocracy, earning the nickname 'the God of Flowers.' His works are characterized by their luminous quality, meticulous botanical accuracy, and the dramatic use of light and shadow inherited from the Dutch still-life tradition.
