Nicolaes Eliasz. Pickenoy (c. 1588, 1650/56) was a prominent Dutch Golden Age portrait painter based in Amsterdam, celebrated for his refined and psychologically penetrating depictions of the city's merchant elite. A contemporary and competitor of Rembrandt and Thomas de Keyser, he was among the most sought-after portraitists in Amsterdam during the 1620s and 1630s. His work is distinguished by its elegant compositions, meticulous attention to costume detail, and a dignified naturalism characteristic of the height of Dutch portraiture.
