Lorenzo Monaco, born Piero di Giovanni, was a Sienese painter and miniaturist active primarily in Florence during the late Gothic to early Renaissance period. He is regarded as one of the last significant exponents of the Giotto tradition, bridging the medieval and Renaissance eras. His work in painting and manuscript illumination made him a distinctive figure before the revolutionary changes brought by Fra Angelico and Masaccio.
