Léonard Tsugouharu Foujita (1886, 1968) was a Japanese-French painter celebrated for his distinctive fusion of Eastern and Western artistic traditions, particularly renowned for his luminous white skin technique achieved through a unique mixture of oils and his fine ink-line contour work. Born in Tokyo and settling in Paris in 1913, he became a central figure of the École de Paris and the bohemian Montparnasse art scene alongside Picasso, Modigliani, and Soutine. His oeuvre spans intimate nude paintings, self-portraits, cats, and religious murals, commanding consistently high prices at major auction houses including Christie's, Sotheby's, and Bonhams.
