John Little (1907, 1984) was an American Abstract Expressionist painter who studied under Hans Hofmann and became closely associated with the New York School. Known for his richly textured, gestural canvases, Little worked with thick impasto surfaces and bold, expressive color relationships that reflected his deep engagement with the principles of push and pull dynamics. He was a significant though sometimes underrecognized figure within the first generation of Abstract Expressionism, exhibiting alongside contemporaries such as Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning.
