Gladys Nilsson

Gladys Nilsson (born 1940) is an American painter known for her vibrant, humorous, and densely populated figurative works rendered in watercolor and acrylic. A key member of the Chicago Imagists, she was associated with the Hairy Who group in the late 1960s, whose irreverent, comic-book-influenced aesthetic challenged the dominance of Abstract Expressionism. Her work is celebrated for its wit, exuberant color, and playful exploration of the human figure.
