West was a sculptor known for his 'Adaptives' or 'Paßstücke,' participatory sculptures meant to be handled by viewers, and colorful furniture-like sculptures. His work combined Arte Povera aesthetics with Viennese Actionism, emphasizing viewer interaction and bodily experience. Major retrospectives were held at the Centre Pompidou and his work is in collections including MoMA and the Tate.
