Francesca Woodman was an American photographer known for her haunting black-and-white self-portraits and experimental explorations of the female body, often featuring blurred motion, long exposures, and interiors with peeling wallpaper and decaying architecture. Working primarily between 1975 and 1981, she created over 800 photographs before her tragic death at age 22, yet her work has gained immense posthumous recognition through major exhibitions at institutions including the Guggenheim Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Tate Modern. Her innovative approach to photography, combining surrealist influences with feminist perspectives on identity and embodiment, has established her as one of the most influential photographers of the late 20th century.
