Francisco Domingos da Silva, known as Chico da Silva, was a Brazilian self-taught artist born in the Amazon region who became internationally renowned for his fantastical depictions of mythological creatures, fish, reptiles, and hybrid beings drawn from Amazonian folklore and his indigenous heritage. Working primarily in vivid, bold colors on paper and canvas, his intricate and visionary imagery attracted significant international attention in the 1960s when his work was exhibited in Europe and the United States. He became a central figure of the Ceará art scene in Fortaleza, Brazil, and is celebrated as one of the most important naïve and outsider artists to emerge from Latin America.
