Carlo Bugatti (1856, 1940) was an Italian designer and artist celebrated for his wildly eccentric and highly original furniture, silverwork, and decorative objects that defied easy categorization. His work blended Moorish, Japanese, and Egyptian influences into a singular aesthetic that anticipated Art Nouveau and Symbolism. Father of automobile designer Ettore Bugatti, Carlo achieved international recognition at the 1902 Turin Exhibition where he won first prize for his innovative furniture designs.
