Bertha Wegmann (1847, 1926) was a Danish-German portrait painter celebrated for her technically accomplished and psychologically perceptive portrayals of women and children. Trained in Munich and Paris, she became one of the most respected female artists of her era, earning medals at major European exhibitions and becoming the first woman elected as a full member of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Her work is characterized by refined naturalism, warm tonality, and a sensitivity to character that placed her among the leading portraitists of late 19th-century Europe.
