Awol Erizku

Awol Erizku is an Ethiopian-American multidisciplinary artist whose work spans photography, sculpture, installation, and film, often exploring themes of Black identity, beauty, and cultural heritage through a lens that challenges Eurocentric art historical narratives. Raised in the Bronx, New York, he gained widespread recognition for his reimagining of classical still life and portrait traditions by centering Black and African subjects. His work is celebrated for its rich visual language, drawing on references ranging from ancient African art to contemporary pop culture.
