Cuban(August 3, 1900 – 1957)

Carlos Enríquez (1900, 1957) was a pioneering Cuban painter associated with the vanguardia movement, known for his sensual, mythologically charged depictions of the Cuban countryside and its people. His work blended European modernist influences with distinctly Cuban themes, featuring fluid, intertwined figures in lush, tropical landscapes often charged with eroticism and folklore. He is considered one of the most important figures in 20th-century Cuban art, celebrated for works such as 'El rapto de las mulatas' (The Abduction of the Mulatas).
