Kniphofia aphrodisiaca, from Surrealistic Flowers (Field 72-7F; M&L 537)
This 1972 etching and heliogravure by Salvador Dalí depicts the Kniphofia aphrodisiaca flower rendered in characteristically surrealist fashion, transforming the botanical subject into a dreamlike and abstracted form. Part of his Surrealistic Flowers series, the work exemplifies Dalí's approach of infusing nature with psychological and erotic symbolism through distorted forms and rich color. Printed on Arches paper as an artist's proof, this striking composition measures approximately 754 by 559 millimeters and bears Dalí's authentication marks alongside the printer's mark from the prestigious Parisian workshops of Ateliers Rigal and Draeger.
