A sweeping gelatin silver photograph of the Buffalo Springs landscape in Kenya is transformed into a richly layered mixed-media work through Beard's signature interventions of ink, paint, and collaborative drawings by Kenyan artists Kivoi Mathenge and E. Mwangi Kuria. The addition of an affixed feather bridges the natural world with the surface of the image, blurring the boundary between documentation and artifact. The result is a visceral, diary-like meditation on the African wilderness that reflects Beard's deeply personal and at times obsessive relationship with the continent.
