This marble masterpiece depicts a young male figure in contrapposto stance, his musculature rendered with anatomical precision characteristic of High Renaissance idealism. Carved from a single block of white marble, the figure stands nearly seventeen feet tall, commanding the neoclassical interior space with serene confidence and psychological intensity. The sculptor's masterful handling of the stone is evident in the delicate curls of the figure's hair, the subtle modeling of the torso, and the expressive turn of the head, which gazes downward with a mixture of contemplation and resolve. Completed in the early sixteenth century, this work represents a pinnacle of Renaissance sculpture and has become one of the most recognizable artworks in Western civilization.
