In Memory Of Malevich
A playful yet contemplative homage to the pioneering Russian abstractionist Kazimir Malevich, this mixed-media assemblage combines oil and plaster on wood with papier-mâché and a toy truck encased in a Perspex box. Sokov, a key figure in the Soviet Sots Art movement, characteristically bridges the gap between high art and mass-produced objects, infusing the reverent language of memorialization with irony and wit. The juxtaposition of Malevich's legacy of radical geometric abstraction with the humble materiality of a child's toy invites reflection on the mythology of the avant-garde and its place in collective memory.
