Les magdaléniens (The Magdalenians): three impressions
Three etchings by Joan Miró showcase his signature fusion of surrealist imagination and primal symbolism, referencing the ancient Magdalenian people of prehistoric Europe. Two of the prints feature hand-applied crayon coloring—one further enriched with gouache—lending an intimate, tactile quality to Miró's biomorphic figures and hieroglyphic-like marks. The third impression employs aquatint printed in colors, demonstrating Miró's masterful exploration of printmaking techniques to evoke a mythic, dreamlike world rooted in humanity's earliest visual language.
