Glenn Kaino — The Siege Perilous
Glenn Kaino

The Siege Perilous

2003

"The Siege Perilous" by Glenn Kaino presents an Aeron chair encased within a Plexiglas and steel vitrine, set atop a painted wooden base and animated by an electric motor. The work draws on Arthurian legend, where the "siege perilous" was a seat at the Round Table reserved for the knight destined to find the Holy Grail — fatal to any unworthy soul who dared sit in it. Kaino reframes this mythic object through the lens of contemporary office culture, questioning notions of power, destiny, and who is deemed worthy to occupy spaces of authority.
