A circular table top
1830
This circular tabletop showcases an extraordinary mosaic of polished marble and semi precious stones arranged in an organic, seemingly random composition. Hundreds of irregular polygonal and rounded fragments in warm earth tones, jewel like blues and greens, deep blacks, and translucent ambers create a densely patterned surface that reads as both geological and decorative. The stones are precisely cut and fitted together with minimal grout, their natural veining and color variations visible in crisp detail. The work exemplifies 19th century Roman hardstone craftsmanship, where precious and commonplace materials are unified into a harmonious whole through masterful lapidary technique.
