Photoshop CS: 110 by 72 inches, 300 DPI, RGB, square pixels, default gradient "Spectrum", mousedown y=23900 x=11650, mouse up y=32650 x=11650
This work by Cory Arcangel consists of a large-scale gradient generated entirely through the default settings and tools of Adobe Photoshop, with the title itself functioning as a precise technical instruction set used to create the image. The spectrum of color flows across the canvas as a direct result of a single dragged mouse gesture within the software, reducing the act of artistic creation to a mechanical, reproducible command. Arcangel's piece interrogates the nature of authorship and aesthetic choice by surrendering creative decisions to the pre-programmed defaults of commercial software.
