I See What You Mean (Big Blue Bear)
2005
Towering 32 feet above downtown Denver's 16th Street Mall, this monumental blue bear peers through the glass facade of the Colorado Convention Center with an expression of curiosity and wonder. Cast in concrete resin and painted a striking cobalt blue, the anthropomorphic creature gazes upward and inward, creating an engaging dialogue between the urban landscape and passersby below. Lawrence Argent's playful sculpture has become an iconic symbol of Denver, beloved for its whimsical yet contemplative presence and its ability to humanize the relationship between public space and architecture. The work exemplifies contemporary public art's capacity to transform commercial districts into spaces of imagination and social interaction. Photo by Emmanuel Appiah on Unsplash
