Gefion Fountain
1908
Created by Danish sculptor Anders Bundgaard, the Gefion Fountain is a monumental bronze sculptural ensemble depicting the Nordic goddess Gefion commanding her four oxen to plow the earth. Cast in bronze and set within a multi-tiered stone basin, the dynamic composition captures dramatic movement and mythological narrative on an epic scale. Water cascades from the upper levels, animating the sculpture and emphasizing the labor and transformation at the work's thematic heart. Installed in 1908 near Kastellet in Copenhagen, this iconic public artwork has become a beloved landmark and symbol of Danish cultural identity, drawing visitors and locals alike to gather around its powerful form and storied waters.
