Zilia Sánchez Domínguez

Zilia Sánchez is a pioneering Cuban artist born in 1926 in Havana, known for her innovative 'telas' (shaped canvases) that blend painting and sculpture into sensuous, biomorphic forms. Her work explores themes of the female body, eroticism, and cosmology through minimal yet deeply evocative abstract compositions. After living in New York and later settling in Puerto Rico in 1967, she became a foundational figure in Latin American modernism, receiving renewed international recognition in her later years through major retrospectives.
